Today while scrolling through my Instagram account I saw a photo of an adorable baby with a batman birthmark. It was uploaded by her mom. Luna; the baby is famous on Instagram because of her birthmark. When Luna’s mother is pregnant with her everything seems perfect; scan reports, ultrasound reports are also normal. There is no problem with pregnancy; after birth, Unexpectedly the baby’s face is covered with batman shaped birthmarks. It covered part of her forehead, nose, eyelid, and onto her cheeks.
This condition is called Giant Congenital Melanocytic Nevus. This is a dark-colored; often a hairy patch of skin. It is present at birth or appears in the first year of life. It usually continues to grow as the child grows. GCMN is not passed down from parents. There is no way to prevent your child from being born with moles. Most GCMN usually do not cause health problems, but sometimes may develop into skin cancer later in life.
CMN is present in approximately 1% of newborns, while GCMN is the most uncommon subtype of them with an occurrence rate of 1 in 50 000 births. It’s hard to surgically remove congenital nevi Especially large and gain tones, these may require several cuts, stitches, or even skin replacement. Luna’s parents want to remove it before she starts going to school so kids wouldn’t tease her.
“ We saw a lot of doctors. we went to Chicago, Boston, and New York trying to find a better result,” Carol said. When Carol started sharing Luna’s story on Instagram.
