Robbie Coltrane, who was in movies like Harry Potter and Cracker, has died at the age of 72, his agent said. In a statement, his agent said, “On Friday, October 14, my client and friend Robbie Coltrane OBE died.”
Robbie was a one-of-a-kind actor. He and Sir Michael Gambon were both in the Guinness Book of Records for winning three Best Actor Baftas in a row for their roles as Fitz in the Granada TV series Cracker in 1994, 1995, and 1996.
“He will probably be most remembered in the years to come for his role as Hagrid in the Harry Potter movies. This was a role that made children and adults happy all over the world and led to hundreds of letters from fans every week for over 20 years.
“James Bond fans also write to praise his roles in GoldenEye and The World Is Not Enough.
“I will remember him as a customer who was always loyal to me. He was a great actor, but he was also very smart and funny. After 40 years of being proud to be called his agent, I will miss him.
“His sister Annie Rae, his children Spencer and Alice, and their mother Rhona Gemmell are the only ones who will remember him. They want to thank the doctors and nurses at the Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert for the care and kindness they showed.
One person said, “Robbie Coltrane was a legend, a great actor, and a funny guy. Hagrid, of course, but he also played a lot of other great roles.”Robbie, who was born in Scotland, was a well-known actor before he played Hagrid, who is half human and half giant.
He was a detective in the crime drama series Cracker and in two James Bond movies, GoldenEye and The World Are Not Enough. However, his most famous role was probably as Hagrid in the Harry Potter movies. Since Potter ended, he has only been in a few movies. In 2012, he had a voice role in Great Expectations and played a doctor in Effie.
Due to health problems, he had to stop acting for four years in 2012. In 2016, he played a TV comedian who was accused of raping a 15-year-old girl in National Treasure, a four-part TV drama on Channel 4. This was one of his most well-known roles.
