Jenny Dagnino, the Pet Training Manager at Arizona Humane Society told that it’s common to see social relationships between animals of different specialties. Read on to know more about Jenny’s insights.

Dagnino said that cats and dogs like to have company with both people and animals of other species. “It is safe to assume that animals who do have social relationships with other species likely had exposure to them during an early stage in their development, or had interactions over a long period of time that were positive for them,”
“At the Arizona Humane Society, we have opportunities to pair animals of the same species (dogs with dogs, cats with cats) to provide some more social interaction, and sometimes it can provide a shy animal some comfort,” Said Dagnino.

She also said that even cats and dogs can get along with each other. But their ability or inclination to do this is affected by both animals’ experiences in early development and maintained by positive or negative experiences during their lifetime, even genetics,”
Moreover, mutually beneficial relationships can also occur between animals. Coyotes and badgers hunting together is a good example of such a mutually beneficial friendship.
We can also see the friendship between different animal species adopted by humans.

However, it doesn’t mean that cats and dogs will suddenly become friends. It happens because they stay constantly around each other.
Just like animals understand commands that we say, they can also convey messages to other animals too. For example, a dog can understand what a cat, cheetah, or duck is trying to say.
The basic foundation for a friendship between animals can start from anything. But one of the most common ways that it starts is by having fun. Animals get close to each other when they start playing with each other.
