Suppose we think about our childhood for a second. There are random times of joy as well as annoyance. Some children have no such memories.
However, that can be changed by the word adoption. Adoption is an ever-present chance for stability and an opportunity to experience a loving and happy family life. It’s also a moment of happiness, celebration, and a moment to remember.
Today we Anomalous brought you a collection of adoption pictures filled with bright smiles and utter joy. We hope this will spread love and joy and even make more people adopt children.
Together We Rise is a nonprofit organization aiming to improve the foster care experience for about half a million children. They have collaborated with individuals, companies, and community partners to provide resources, providing children with bicycles, educational programs, college scholarships, and sweet cases. They also believe that children in foster care deserve dignity, respect, and support.
They have been sharing heartwarming photos of foster kids on the day they were adopted for more than two years. The pure happiness of these children in those photos cannot be mistaken.
The executive director of Together We Rise, Gianna Dahlia, told the Huffington Post that she continues to say that they want to inspire families, either going through adoption or considering it.
She also states that they have had thousands of people reach out to them and either say they consider being a foster parent or adopting because of the photos.
These pictures genuinely depict times of celebration, love, and joy being shared. The images not only meet with positivity, but they also express criticism, accusing them of exploiting these children as props and minimizing the issues at hand. Considering the facts, you can’t help but question, do these people have a point? Let’s look at some facts and what professionals suggest as potential solutions other than adoption.
Adoption is a potentially life-changing solution, and it is not accessible to everyone. Different topics like religion, race, and being single or part of an unmarried relationship also affect the adoption rate in the world.
Even though these organizations are working towards making more people adopt, not all children have the chance to be adopted. What about the rest of the children who do not have the opportunity to be adopted? It is unrealistic to believe that every child will be adopted. Adopters prefer younger children, so our focus should be on ensuring a stable life, allowing quality education and preparation for adulthood.
Shalita O’Neale, the Founder and Executive Director of Hope Forward, Inc, also describes the realities of foster youths aging into adulthood, early parenting, homelessness, unemployment, and discussion about mental health issues. A study also showed that between 31% and 46% of youths aging out of foster care had been homeless at least once by age 26 years. Different organizations like Loving Arms Inc and Hope forward Inc are working to address these issues.
This means that we need to promote a means for youth to grow up ready for adulthood, academically and socially, and emotionally intelligent, ready to flow into the broader community.
The North American Council on Adoptable Children (NACAC) states that children in foster care are more likely to have trauma, change schools, and move from one home to another. This means that we need to promote means for youth to grow up ready for adulthood. We need to make them emotionally intelligent and willing to flow into the broader community.
You can donate to NACAC here, and if you’d like to help support Together, We Rise, here is the link. Enjoy the following heartwarming pictures of the children, and let us know your thoughts in the comments?
